1. What Is A Kitchen Respray?

A kitchen respray involves professionally preparing and spray coating suitable existing kitchen doors, drawer fronts and other cabinet surfaces.

Instead of replacing the entire kitchen, the existing cabinetry can be transformed with a new colour and finish.

This can be an excellent option if you're happy with your existing kitchen layout and the cabinets are structurally sound but the appearance is dated or no longer suits your taste.

2. How Much Does A Kitchen Respray Cost?

The cost depends on the size of the kitchen, number of doors and drawers, materials, condition of the existing surfaces, colour, finish and the amount of preparation required.

Our kitchen respray projects can range from approximately £1,152 to £4,320+.

These figures are intended as a guide only. Every kitchen is different, so we provide individual quotations based on the actual work required.

3. Is Kitchen Respraying Cheaper Than Replacing A Kitchen?

In many cases, yes.

A complete kitchen replacement can involve new cabinets, worktops, appliances, installation, plumbing, electrical work, removal and disposal of the existing kitchen.

A respray focuses on transforming suitable existing components.

If you're already happy with your kitchen layout and storage, respraying can provide a significantly more cost-effective way of changing its appearance without replacing everything.

4. Can Any Kitchen Be Resprayed?

No. The suitability of a kitchen depends on the material, existing finish and condition of the surfaces.

We can work with a variety of suitable materials, which can include certain MDF, wooden, laminate and vinyl-wrapped kitchen doors.

However, every kitchen needs to be assessed individually.

If doors are badly damaged, peeling, structurally unsound or have an unsuitable existing coating, additional preparation or another solution may be required.

5. Can You Respray Vinyl-Wrapped Kitchen Doors?

Some vinyl-wrapped doors can be suitable for respraying.

However, the condition of the vinyl is particularly important.

If the vinyl is firmly bonded and the surface is suitable, a professional coating system may be possible.

If the vinyl is peeling, lifting or failing, simply spraying over it may not be appropriate.

6. Can I Choose Any Colour For My Kitchen?

We offer a wide range of colour options.

Our standard colour options include Farrow & Ball and RAL, and we can also investigate colours from other recognised paint manufacturers.

If you already have a particular colour in mind, provide us with the brand, colour name and reference number.

We'll check whether the appropriate colour recipe is available through our supplier.

7. Can You Match A Colour From Another Paint Brand?

Yes, where a suitable colour recipe is available.

If you have a colour from another manufacturer, give us the brand, colour name and reference number.

If the colour isn't part of our standard Farrow & Ball or RAL options, our supplier may need to obtain the recipe from their laboratory.

A small additional surcharge may apply when a laboratory colour recipe is required.

We'll confirm this with you before proceeding.

8. Can I Download Farrow & Ball Or RAL Colour Charts?

Yes.

We provide colour-chart options to help you explore the available colours before deciding on your kitchen's new finish.

Remember that colours displayed on a computer or phone screen can vary from the actual colour, so where possible we recommend viewing a physical sample in the kitchen.

9. Can You Respray My Kitchen A Completely Different Colour?

Yes, provided the existing surfaces are suitable for the proposed coating system.

A kitchen respray isn't limited to refreshing the existing colour.

For example, a dated cream kitchen could potentially become grey, a dark kitchen could potentially be made considerably lighter, or a plain kitchen could be transformed with a stronger green or blue shade.

The existing surface and preparation requirements will determine the most suitable approach.

10. What Finishes Are Available For Kitchen Cabinets?

Depending on the coating system and suitability of the kitchen, finishes can include:

Matt
Satin
Gloss

Matt provides a softer, understated appearance.

Satin provides a subtle level of sheen and is a popular middle ground.

Gloss creates a more reflective appearance.

11. Do You Remove The Kitchen Doors And Drawers?

Where removable doors and drawer fronts are included in the project, these can be carefully removed and prepared for spraying.

We number the components during removal so that they can be returned to their original positions.

This is particularly important on larger kitchens where multiple doors and drawer fronts may look similar.

12. Where Are Kitchen Doors And Drawers Sprayed?

Removable doors and drawer fronts can be taken away for professional preparation and spraying in our workshop.

Fixed areas of the kitchen that are included within the project can be dealt with separately at the property where appropriate.

The exact process depends on the kitchen, materials and scope of the work.

13. How Important Is Preparation Before Spraying?

Preparation is one of the most important parts of the process.

Kitchen cabinets are exposed to cooking grease, oils, cleaning products and everyday contamination.

The existing surface also needs to be correctly prepared for the new coating.

Depending on the material and condition, preparation can involve cleaning, degreasing, sanding, keying and the application of an appropriate primer or undercoat.

Simply spraying new paint over an unsuitable or contaminated surface isn't a professional kitchen respray.

14. Can You Respray The Kitchen Carcasses As Well As The Doors?

Suitable fixed cabinet areas can potentially be included.

However, this depends on accessibility, material, existing coating, condition and the coating system required.

15. Can You Respray Kitchen Worktops?

Yes, suitable existing worktops can potentially be transformed using specialist coating systems.

Worktop respraying can be particularly useful if the worktops are structurally sound but look dated or no longer complement the new cabinet colour.

We can also discuss stone-effect or granite-style finishes where appropriate.

The existing worktop must be assessed first because not every material or condition is suitable for the same coating system.

16. Is A Resprayed Worktop The Same As Installing A New Worktop?

No.

A resprayed worktop is the existing worktop with a new professional coating applied to the prepared surface.

It isn't the same as installing a new quartz, granite, solid-surface or other manufactured worktop.

Worktop respraying is intended to change the appearance of a suitable existing surface while allowing you to retain it.

For homeowners who are happy with the existing worktop but want a different appearance, this can be an attractive alternative to replacement.

17. Should I Respray My Kitchen Or Replace It?

It depends on what you want to achieve.

A respray can be a good option when:

You like your existing layout
The cabinets are structurally sound
You have enough storage
You mainly want to change the appearance
Your existing kitchen is otherwise functional

A new kitchen may make more sense if you need a completely different layout, substantially more storage, new cabinetry or major changes to plumbing and electrics.

18. Can I Change The Handles At The Same Time?

Yes.

Changing the handles can be a simple way of making the transformation even more noticeable.

If the new handles use the existing fixing holes, installation can be straightforward.

If the new handles have different fixing positions, the existing holes may need to be filled and new holes drilled.

This can be discussed as part of your kitchen makeover.

19. How Long Does A Kitchen Respray Take?

There isn't one fixed timescale because every kitchen is different.

The duration can depend on:
